Ince giving Fowler time

Paul Ince insists sentiment will not influence his decision over Robbie Fowler's future.

But Rovers chief won't give striker deal just because they're mates

Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince insists sentiment will not influence his decision over Robbie Fowler's future. Fowler has been training with Rovers during pre-season after turning down a new contract at Cardiff City. He is looking to prove his fitness after missing much of last season with a hip problem and Ince is keen to give his former Liverpool team-mate as much time as possible. However, Ince says the ex-England striker will only be offered a contract with Rovers if he shows he can make an impact this season.

No old pals' act

"When you've had an injury like Robbie's had, it's going to take time to get back up to speed again and I want to give him as much time as I possibly can," Ince told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "And that's not an old pals' act because I was with Robbie for two years at Liverpool. "If he's not good enough, then he's not good enough - full stop. I can't afford to start doing old pals a favour because this is my first job as a Premier League manager. "But if he gets himself sharp and fit, then I think we've got a very good player there." Meanwhile, Bordeaux have confirmed young defender Paul Baysse is training with Blackburn, while reports claim Lens midfielder Julien Sable is also on trial at Ewood Park.
