Cesena may try to sign Adrian Mutu at the end of the season if he is available on a free transfer.
The Romanian was expected to leave Fiorentina in January after angering the club by walking out of training.
Cesena came close to signing him but Fiorentina eventually decided not to sell and welcomed him back from the cold after leaving him out for a few games as punishment.
Mutu's long-term future remains uncertain and Cesena sporting director Lorenzo Minotti is thinking about launching a summer swoop.
"The idea to sign him in January came from president [Igor] Campedelli," said Minotti.
"The Romanian was just one step away from joining us.
"When we sit down at the end of the season to discuss our market plans we will certainly evaluate going back for Mutu.
"However, we could only afford to do that if he was free of his Fiorentina contract.
"Cesena can only think about paying Mutu's wages and not a transfer fee for him."
