Algeria international determined to keep club in top-flight

Portsmouth midfielder Hassan Yebda insists he does not want to follow Algeria team-mate Nadir Belhadj out of the club. Belhadj has confirmed that he is unhappy at Fratton Park and that he wants to leave in January to ensure his place in the national squad for next year's World Cup in South Africa. However, unlike Belhadj, 25-year-old Yebda has been a regular performer for Pompey so far this season and has made 11 appearances this term. He scored the winning goal in Portsmouth's first victory of the Premier League campaign against Wolves and is happy at the South Coast club. "The first thing is to keep Portsmouth in the Premier League," he said in the Daily Express. "We are in a bad situation but we have good players and I think we will stay up. "I am very happy at the club and I would like to stay in English football, hopefully here." Portsmouth are currently bottom of the Premier League although they picked up their first win under new manager Avram Grant on Saturday, 2-0 against Burnley. They travel to the Stadium of Light this weekend to face a Sunderland side who have an excellent home record.
