Beausejour and Jara among five players kicked out of squad

Chile have suspended five players, including two British-based stars, for returning late and worse for wear from an evening off. The South American nation is readying itself for two crucial 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Part of their preparations saw their squad given time off on Tuesday, with players expected back at the camp by 10pm. Five players flaunted these rules and Chile coach Claudio Borghi has named the shamed stars as Birmingham's Jean Beausejour, Juventus' Arturo Vidal, Atalanta's Carlos Carmona, Palmeiras' Jorge Valdivia and West Brom's Gonzalo Jara, who is currently taking in a loan spell at Brighton. "Five players arrived 45 minutes late and not in a state adequate for a professional player," said Borghi.

Agreement

"So I took the decision to withdraw them. "These players did not comply, not with a written agreement but a verbal agreement." Jara was already set to miss matches against Uruguay and Paraguay through injury, but he has now been removed from the squad. Chile-based quintet Felipe Gutierrez, Francisco Silva, Fernando Meneses, Milovan Mirosevic and Jose Rojas have been called up as replacements.
