Thomas Sorensen has announced his retirement from international football after winning 101 caps for Denmark.
Goalkeeper will concentrate on his club football with Stoke City
Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has announced his retirement from international football after winning 101 caps for Denmark.
After making his debut in November 1999 the 36-year-old was tasked with filling the boots of the legendary Peter Schmeichel, who retired a year later, and quickly established himself as the country's No.1.
He was a member of the squad which took part in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups as well as Euro 2004 when Denmark reached the quarter-finals.
But Sorensen's hopes of being included in Denmark's Euro 2012 squad were dashed when he was ruled out with a back injury before the tournament started.
The keeper will now concentrate on his club career at Stoke where he is facing a tough battle with Asmir Begovic for a first-team place.
"I have today made the announcement that I am finishing my international career," Sorensen tweeted. "So proud to have represented Denmark 101 times. Time of my life."
