Burton boss Gary Rowett has revealed he was 'flattered' by the interest shown in him by Blackpool, but says it will have "to be something special" for him to leave the League Two pacesetters.

Rowett was approached by Championship strugglers Blackpool earlier in the week, but after talks with Seasiders chairman Karl Oyston, he decided to turn down the opportunity to lead the Tangerines.

The 40-year-old former Derby and Birmingham defender, who has guided the Brewers to the play-offs twice in the last two seasons, as well as top spot so far this term, has been receiving admiring glances from above, but has revealed he has an emotional attachment to Burton.

In his weekly TEAMtalk.com column, Rowett said: "It's been quite public this week that there was an approach from Blackpool to our club and that the chairman gave me permission to speak to them.

Burton chairman Ben Robinson spoke to Sky Sports News HQ about Rowett's decision to reject Blackpool

"With opportunities like that, for my own benefit I've always taken the step to go to the club that's interested because it's a very good experience and a good opportunity to see how a bigger club works. These type of things are invaluable.

"It was difficult, though, because we've recruited so well and have got such a good team at Burton. We've started so well and you do feel a sense of emotional attachment to the team and the players because you've brought them in and work with them every day.

"To make me leave that, it's got to be something special. I just felt at this point of my career with this team and this opportunity this season that at the moment it wasn't quite right.

"But that's not to say I wasn't flattered by the interest because it's nice to know that the work we're doing at Burton in League Two is being noticed by people as high as the Championship."
