The scout reports...

The Sky Sports Scout returns to normality after his stint checking on the World Cup, and perhaps fittingly he checks out one of England's finest young prospects. In the wake of England's poor showing at the World Cup finals, many pundits in the media were eagerly putting together their potential side for four years' time in Brazil, and Crystal Palace's Nathaniel Clyne was in a number of the teams. Clyne is a hugely exciting right-back who has become a permanent fixture in the Palace side since making his debut late in 2008. After spending time with Tottenham's youth set-up, Stockwell-born Clyne joined Palace and he soon accelerated through to the first team. The first thing anyone will notice about Clyne is his blistering pace and it allows him to break at will, and his over-lapping runs are a huge feature of his game. His pace also allows him to match-up one-on-one to any winger that comes up against him, although sometimes he can be turned - he more often than not is back to cover. His passing is more than solid, and his tackling is better than most give him credit for as some can perceive him to be somewhat more flamboyant than is the case. And whilst it is true he attacks in the style of a modern full-back, he is very much a full-back as opposed to a wing-back, although he could easily play that role if asked. Many would liken him to Glen Johnson, and that is not an unkind comparison in any way - but already you could argue that Clyne is showing much more of an inclination to defend.

The scout says...

Palace already have a battle to hang onto Clyne with Premier League clubs continuously pursuing him almost since he made his debut. He is due to feature for England Under-19s this summer, but he could very well return finding himself with a new employer.
