West Brom defender Marek Cech is reportedly on the verge of joining French outfit Rennes.

Defender's talks with Rennes in "final phase," says brother

West Brom defender Marek Cech is on the verge of joining French outfit Rennes, according to the player's brother. The 27-year-old joined the Baggies from Porto for £1.4million in July 2008 and has one-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal. With 18 Championship appearances and two goals this term, Cech remains a pivotal part of Roberto Di Matteo's squad, who are on course for promotion back into the Premier League. Cech's brother Richard claims talks between the two clubs are at an "intense" stage and the Slovakia international is thought to be keen on a move to the French top division. "I can confirm that Stade Rennes have been in touch with Marek through a French players' agency since December and talks between the two clubs have been intense," he said. "Both sides have presented their requirements. The difference between the offer and the demanded fee is not large. "It is in the final phase, but an agreement has not been reached yet."
