Full-back wants to play his part in helping Bristol City to stay up

Bristol City defender Jamie McAllister is hoping to play his part in helping maintain their Championship status after making his first start for the club in six months. The 33-year-old was sidelined for the first half of the campaign after suffering an ankle injury in August, but found first-team opportunities restricted after returning to action in January. The Scotland international recently enjoyed a one-month loan spell at League One side Preston and returned to the Robins' starting line-up for Tuesday's 3-2 win over Leicester. He is now determined to make up for lost time by helping Derek McInnes' side climb away from an end-of-season relegation scrap.

Ready and willing

"It was a great result for us and a massive win, plus it was nice to be back in the starting line-up because I've missed it," McAllister told Sky Sports. "The season started off okay with me playing the first six games, but then I got injured and missed four months after having an operation on my ankle. "Once I had recovered I had to go out on loan to impress and regain fitness because the new manager was installed. "I got my chance against Leicester and really enjoyed it, so hopefully I can play a part in helping to keep us in the Championship. "Hopefully, I can do my bit to help the team out and our main objective is to stay in the Championship, so everyone is ready and willing to play their part when required." The Robins currently hold a five-point buffer over the relegation zone, but the former Hearts full-back insists that they have not set any points targets to ensure their safety this season. He added: "We've not set any points targets or anything and it is a case of just taking each game as it comes. "I know that it is a bit of a cliché, but the next game is always the most important one, so our next one is the one we are focused on and it is a big one against Cardiff. "They are always great games to be involved in, with a great atmosphere and tempo, so it is one we all look forward to and we go into with a lot of confidence."
