Davies and Thornhill free to move on

Nottingham Forest are prepared to let midfield duo Arron Davies and Matt Thornhill leave the club in January. Wales international Davies joined the Reds from Yeovil in 2007 while Thornhill is a product of the club's academy. Both men have recently spent a spell on loan at League One outfit Brighton, but were returned to their parent club by Seagulls boss Gus Poyet. Neither are likely to force their way into the first-team fold at Forest any time soon and boss Billy Davies admits a change of scene could be best for all concerned. "I have spoken to several players and the last thing I want to do is stop them progressing their careers," said Davies, when asked about the duo. "Sometimes you find yourself at a football club at the wrong time and sometimes you have to take two steps backwards to take three forwards. "We have good young players here who need to move on and who need to go and have a fresh start. There are players here who need to move on to kick-start their careers because I can't see them getting in the side here in the next couple of months. "We don't want to waste their time. Over the next two or three weeks, we will be making some tough decisions to benefit them and the club."
