Holmes and Lallana look forward to stability

Southampton duo Lee Holmes and Adam Lallana have welcomed the appointment of Alan Pardew as the club's new manager. Pardew has signed a three-year contract at St Mary's to replace Mark Wotte, who was sacked after Markus Liebherr completed his takeover of the League One club. Liebherr's takeover came after weeks of uncertainty regarding Saints' future and Holmes is happy that stability is on its way to the club. "We needed someone to come in sooner rather than later, and Alan coming is great news," Holmes told Sky Sports News.

Exciting times

"Everything's done so it's great news and exciting times. "It was dragging on a little bit and obviously with the new board coming in it was time something had to be done. "There are three weeks now (to the start of the season) and it gives the new manager time to look at the players, and obviously he'll have in mind who he's bringing in. "It's exciting times and I can't wait to get started." Lallana, meanwhile, is hoping that the former West Ham United boss can lead Southampton to promotion despite the team starting the campaign with a 10 point deduction. "It's brilliant," said Lallana. "Everyone needs a fresh start. "He's got a good record with West Ham and Reading, I think with two promotions and everyone wants that to happen here, so hopefully he can do it."
