Strike pair Mido and Amr Zaki have been omitted from the Egypt squad for the African Cup of Nations.

Zaki also missing through injury

Strike pair Mido and Amr Zaki have been omitted from the Egypt squad for the African Cup of Nations. Zaki, who spent last season on loan at Wigan from Zamalek, has a hamstring injury and had been considered extremely doubtful. Mido had been expected to get the nod after being included in coach Hassan Shehata's provisional squad. However, the Middlesbrough man, currently on loan at Zamalek, is a surprise absentee from the final party. Al-Ahly playmaker Mohamed Aboutrika is also missing due to a foot problem so Borussia Dortmund's Mohamed Zidan will lead an otherwise inexperienced forward line. Egypt, who failed to qualify for the World Cup, are the defending champions for the tournament in Angola and face Benin, Mozambique and Nigeria in Group B.
