Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo leads Bento's team and is in scintillating form, having netted hat-tricks for his club against Deportivo La Coruna and Ajax.
The one surprise sprung by the Portugal boss is the inclusion of 24-year-old uncapped defender Luis Neto, while striker Eder keeps his place after impressing on his debut last September.
Portugal are currently joint top of Group F following victories over Luxembourg and Azerbaijan, and the outcome of their clash in Russia could be decisive in the battle for automatic qualification.
Northern Ireland have picked up just one point from their opening two fixtures, having lost to Russia and drawn with Luxembourg.
