Gills want striker Dickson in player plus cash deal

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed he is interested in signing Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson. Parkinson is eager to add more firepower to his frontline and sees Jackson as the ideal candidate as the club look for an immediate return to the Championship after relegation last season. However, any possible deal involving Addicks forward Chris Dickson moving in the opposite direction appears unlikely and Charlton will need to cough up the funds if they are to land their target. 22-year-old Jackson has already netted four goals for the Gills this season back in League One and boss Mark Stimson has previously insisted the striker is not for sale. "That's his prerogative," said Parkinson. "We can only ask the question. "They made a nominal offer for Chris and we've responded by saying we're interested in Simeon, so we'll see if those talks progress. "The deal's not dead. We haven't given them a valuation for Chris but what they've offered is not what we want. "Chris is a player who can score goals for us this season. However, he has a desire to play first-team football and he's concerned about his international prospects being damaged by not being in our team. "I've said to him that if he works hard he might get in our team, but I don't want to keep anyone who doesn't want to be here. "It's a big season for us and we need everyone pulling in the same direction. Anything is possible, everyone has a price and if the offer is made and we feel its right, he can go."
