Dries Mertens is on his way out of PSV Eindhoven, with his agent claiming that a move to Napoli has been agreed.
The Belgium international has spent six years in Dutch football establishing a reputation as a tricky winger and earning plenty of plaudits for his performances.
He now feels, at the age of 26, that the time is right to take on a new challenge.
A stint in Serie A awaits, while Napoli will also be gracing the UEFA Champions League again in 2013/14.
Mertens' representative believes a switch to Italy will be completed by the weekend, with everything having been agreed between the clubs and the player.
Soren Lerby told Radio Cre: "The lawyers are finalising the details, but we can say that Dries Mertens is now a Napoli player. By the weekend he should be ready to arrive in Naples.
"Napoli are a very important club and they have been showing interest for some time. (Rafa) Benitez has given his approval and a deal has been completed.
"Mertens wants to enjoy a great season and take an important step in his career at a club with great history like Napoli."
