Mexico coach Javier Aguirre has suggested that he would like to stay as manager of the team after they exited the World Cup at the hands of Argentina on Sunday.
The Mexicans were beaten 3-1 by Diego Maradona's team, who emphasised their billing as one of the favourites for the tournament with some excellent football.
It was the fifth successive time that Mexico have been beaten at the second round stage, repeating their exit of 2006 to the Argentines at the same phase.
The Mexican FA is reportedly considering the future of the former Atletico Madrid manager, but Aguirre stated he may be willing to stay on if possible despite being rumoured to be looking for a move back to Europe.
"We will speak with the Federation and inform them as soon as possible," Aguirre said following the Argentina defeat.
The 51-year-old expressed that the role was a long-term process, but admitted that he felt he was up to the task.
"We have to choose a coach for a four-year cycle and be patient as he moulds and matures these lads, while continuing with the structures we have which are very good," he added.
"They are doing things well at the Federation.
"I have been working for 13 months. Ideally, one would work for the Mexican Federation for 48 months.
"It is not easy to start all over again every four years."
