An Aduriz double inspired Athletic Bilbao to a 4-0 victory over Getafe in the late La Liga kick-off.

The 34-year-old striker scored either side of the break with his first coming from the penalty spot.

Ibai and substitute Susaeta rounded of the scoring as Athletic moved up into eighth, three points behind Malaga in seventh and eight points behind Villareal in sixth. Getafe remain in 13th after the heavy defeat.

Lionel Messi scored his 400th goal for Barcelona to round off a nervy but vital 2-0 win over Valencia to keep the Catalans top of the table.

The Argentinian scored with the last kick of the game after Luis Suarez had opened the scoring inside the first minute of the match, but the impressive Valencia side were unlucky not to take more from the game, and Dani Parejo passed up an opportunity to equalise in the first-half from the penalty spot.

However, Barcelona made it to half-time unscathed and then produced a solid second-half performance to take the three points.

The Catalans remain first in the Primera Division thanks to the win, while Valencia stay in fourth, suffering just their second league defeat in 2015.

Cristiano Ronaldo notched his 50th goal of the season as Real Madrid beat Malaga 3-1 at the Bernabeu, but it was far from comfortable for the title hopefuls who saw both Gareth Bale and Luka Modric go off injured.

Bale limped off after just four minutes with a calf problem while his former Tottenham colleague Modric had to be replaced in the second half after suffering a knee injury, giving coach Carlo Ancelotti serious cause for concern ahead of Wednesday's Champions League return clash with Atletico Madrid.

Real will at least go into that game on the back of a victory as goals from Sergio Ramos, James Rodriguez and Ronaldo cancelled out a reply from Juanmi.

Antoine Griezmann was at the double yet again to give Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

The Frenchman opened the scoring with just five minutes played with a stunning bicycle kick, then extended the visitors' lead midway through the first half with another impressive first-time finish to move on to 20 league goals in his first season for the Rojiblancos.

Deportivo struggled in the first half but Oriel Riera made for a tense finish by pulling a goal back in the 77th minute.

But Atletico held on for the win to increase their stranglehold on third place to four points after Valencia lost to Barcelona. Deportivo, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone on 28 points.
