QPR forward Eduardo Vargas is out for the rest of the season with a medial cruciate ligament injury.

The 25-year-old injured his knee during the crucial 4-1 victory over West Bromich Albion on Saturday, withdrawn after 30 minutes having scored his side’s opening goal.

The Chilean underwent a scan on Easter Monday that revealed the extent of the injury and the news will come as a severe blow to Rangers' pursuit of Premier League survival.

Head coach Chris Ramsey said: “Eduardo got his studs caught in the turf and went down on his knee very awkwardly. He tried to stay on, which showed me what he’s all about, but he had to come off.”

Three vital points secured at the Hawthorns lifted QPR to within three points of fourth-bottom Aston VIlla with seven games remaining - and they travel to Villa Park on Tuesday night.

They will be also be without Yun Suk-Young because of concussion, but the club have confirmed that Richard Dunne and Leroy Fer are both in contention after injuries.

Ramsey said: “Yun won’t play, he’s concussed. You’ve got to take precautions with head injuries, so he won’t be in the squad.

“I’m not one to moan about injuries, we’ve got a 25-man squad for a reason and you won’t hear me moaning about who is and who isn’t available.

“Villa have injuries, but they've got a good squad. It won't be easy, regardless of what team they put out.”
