Liverpool's on-loan forward Divock Origi ended his five-month goal drought with a hat-trick in Lille's 3-0 win over Rennes on Sunday.

The 19-year-old hadn't scored a goal since the start of October, but struck once in the first half and twice in the second to move Lille into the top 10 in Ligue 1.

Brendan Rodgers spent £10million on the highly-rated Belgian youngster in the summer and loaned him back for the rest of the season.

However, Origi has struggled for form and was booed off by his own supporters after missing a penalty against Wolfsburg in the Europa League in December.

He opened the scoring on Sunday when Sofiane Boufal's corner caused panic in the Rennes area and Origi was on hand to lash home from close range.

He added his second of the game from the penalty spot just after the hour mark. The busy Boufal went down in the area under pressure from Henrique and he fired straight down the middle from 12 yards.

The third came on 70 minutes when Idrissa Gueye and Nolan Roux combined well on the counter before the latter's delivery from the right was slid home by Origi.

The result signals a dramatic change of fortune for Rene Girard's side, who had won just once in six games before notching three consecutive wins to move them away from any potential relegation troubles.
