Sky Bet Championship: Alex Baptiste confident Blackburn can make a play-off surge

Blackburn defender Alex Baptiste believes the club has to prove their play-off credentials by beating in-form Norwich at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.

Rovers' quest for promotion back to the Barclays Premier League under Gary Bowyer, 20 years after they won the top flight, stuttered last week with draws at Cardiff and Baptiste's old club Blackpool.

Bowyer's side are now 12 points off the top six, which is the same distance the bottom-placed Seasiders are from safety.

Blackburn embarked on a late surge last term with a 12-game unbeaten run and only narrowly missed out on the play-offs, and Baptiste has called for them to start with a similar run when the fifth-placed Canaries visit on Tuesday.

"Norwich are on a really good run and if we want to be in those play-off places then, yes, 100 per cent, we have to be beat them," he said.

"We need to start winning more games if we want to be up there, so let's start with Norwich."

Last year's late-season run may have been a case of too little, too late but Baptiste, who has been borrowed from Bolton, has no doubt it is not out of the question for Rovers to muscle into the top six.

"We can still get into the play-offs," he said.

"There's that many games this month and next month - we're playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday - so we've still got a massive chance.

"But we need to start changing these one points into three points and if we do that we'll not be a million miles off."
