Singer Wyclef Jean believes the 2014 FIFA World Cup will leave a lasting legacy in Brazil.

The three-time Grammy award-winner will perform at the tournament's closing ceremony, along with Carlos Santana and Shakira, on Sunday, which precedes the final between Germany and Argentina.

The trio of famous musicians answered journalists' questions at FIFA's daily news briefing in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, and Haitian Jean hopes the Brazilian people will have gained from hosting the tournament.

He said: "Keep in mind that in two years the Olympics will be coming here, so in that we trust just dos will be done.

"When it comes to how to reach the people and the favelas, football is one of the very interesting means to do that.

"Carlos Santana was talking to me about a programme where he challenges to make billions and give back millions.  So us artists up on stage, who support the favelas, trust that the right thing will be done for the people."

Sky Sports' chief news reporter Bryan Swanson reported that FIFA did not hold their usual media briefing with spokesperson Delia Fischer, and were therefore not available to comment on a number of ongoing issues.

Foremost among those is the situation regarding Ray Whelan, head of FIFA's ticketing and hospitality partner Match, who has been described as a "fugitive" by Brazilian police after he disappeared from a Rio hotel.

Whelan has already been arrested and released on bail as part of the ongoing investigation into illegal ticketing at the World Cup, and Brazilian police claim they have a warrant to arrest him for a second time.

The English businessman's lawyer, however, has insisted Whelan did not deliberately evade arrest and that he is waiting for the verdict of a court to confirm that the warrant is just.
