Gunes saw his Turkish side lose out in controversial fashion to Brazil, but, despite the close nature of the match, a section of the media has turned on the coach.
However, Gunes will be boosted by the news that his players are firmly behind him, and angry at the newspapers' coverage.
"This is too much," said Okan Buruk, one of the senior players.
"From now on, we will seek legal action against those who exceed their boundaries and attack us.
"We're representing the entireity of Turkey here, we want some respect."
Buruk's comments were echoed by defender Bulent Korkmaz, who added his own support.
"We came here with Gunes, and we're going on our way with him," said Bulent.
