French name friendly squad

FRANCE have named their squad for the friendly with Yugoslavia next week and they have resisted the chance of recalling some of their more injury prone stars.

The likes of Robert Pires, Bixente Lizarazu, Djibril Cisse and David Trezeguet have all been left out by coach Jacques Santini, mainly as the game - next Wednesday - would not be of benefit to them as they are all just returning to fitness after injury.

Auxerre's Phillipe Mexes is absent, whilst there is again no place for Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka.

A shock recall, though, was handed to Chelsea's Emmanuel Petit (pictured) - his first Les Bleus place since the World Cup finals.

Squad in full: Fabien Barthez (Manchester United), Gregory Coupet (Lyon), Jeremie Brechet (Lyon), Marcel Desailly (Chelsea), William Gallas (Chelsea), Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich), Mikael Silvestre (Manchester United), Lilian Thuram (Juventus), Claude Makelele (Real Madrid), Emmanuel Petit (Chelsea), Patrick Vieira (Arsenal), Eric Carriere (Lyon), Olivier Kapo (Auxerre), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Steve Marlet (Fulham), Sylvain Wiltord (Arsenal)
