Germany see off Japan

Germany beat Japan 3-0 in the first match of their tour of Asia.

Germany proved too strong for Japan, running out 3-0 winners in the first match of their tour of Asia.

Werder Bremen's Miroslav Klose grabbed a second half brace and Michael Ballack netted the other for Jurgen Klinsmann's men in the first meeting ever between the two countries.

In a quiet first half, Ballack came closest to scoring when Japan goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki produced a fine double save to keep out the Bayern Munich man.

The game burst into life in the second half with Klose breaking the deadlock from close range on 54 minutes after Narazaki failed to hold Ballack's free kick.

Ballack doubled the lead 15 minutes later with a brilliant curling shot beyond Narazaki.

Japan never really troubled Oliver Kahn until nine minutes from time when Alex called him into action with a smart shot.

Klose wrapped up the comfortable victory with the third goal in the dying seconds.

Germany will play South Korea on Sunday before ending their tour with a game with Thailand next Tuesday.
