Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has dropped Daniele De Rossi from his squad to face France after the Roma midfielder was sent off for a punch on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was sent off for punching Lazio captain Stefano Mauri in Sunday's Roman derby, a game Lazio won 3-2, with Prandelli applying his strict code of ethics by omitting De Rossi from his 25-man selection.
Prandelli has confirmed he will not include players dismissed for violent conduct or dissent, so De Rossi's place has been taken by his Roma team-mate Alessandro Florenzi, who is named for the first time.
Newcastle defender Davide Santon returns to the national set-up for the first time since March 2011 as the Azzurri prepare to face Les Bleus in a friendly at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Wednesday evening.
Cagliari defender Davide Astori last featured in August's friendly against England, while the inclusion of AC Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy - who now has two caps - would appear to signal the end of the striker's career with the Under-21s.
