Davids winning fitness race

EDGAR DAVIDS is winning his fitness race to be fit for Holland's Euro 2004 qualifying match with the Czech Republic.

The Juventus midfielder missed the country's training session on Monday, due to a groin injury, but is hoping to take part in Tuesday's session.

Should Davids prove his fitness ahead of Wednesday's clash, it remains unclear if he will feature as coach Dick Advocaat is keeping his cards close to his chest.

Ajax midfielder Rafael van der Vaart is almost certain to start, however, after featuring in both of the country's warm up match ahead of the clash.

Meanwhile, Advocaat used his latest press conference to hit back at Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, who criticised him for playing without wingers against Austria.

Speaking to Studio Sport, the Dutch coach stated that the former Barcelona legend turned down coaching the national side twice in his career.
