Shay given Irish start

Shay Given has been named in Ireland's starting XI for their clash with San Marino.

Shay Given has been named in Ireland's starting XI for their Euro 2008 qualifier with San Marino.

Coach Steve Staunton has named his side more than 24 hours in advance for the clash at Lansdowne Road and he has included Given.

The Newcastle number one has not played football since he sustained a stomach injury against West Ham nearly two months ago.

However, now fully fit he will be thrown straight into action by Staunton.

Reading's Kevin Doyle has been named in attack after Cinton Morrison picked up a shin injury in training after colliding with Birmingham's Stephen Kelly.

"There was a clash of shins," confirmed Staunton.

"It's now a matter of time, but he's going to be sore with bone bruising, which is never nice.

"It was an unfortunate accident, but that's football and we will have to wait and see how he is tomorrow.

"Stephen Kelly was involved in the clash. He took a rap as well, but he's not as bad as Clinton."

The team in full is: Given, O'Shea, McShane, Dunne, Finnan, Duff, Carsley, Reid, Kilbane, Keane, Doyle.
