Gareth Bale says Wales still have work to do to qualify for Euro 2016 after beating Belgium

Gareth Bale praised the Wales fans after their 1-0 win over Belgium and says the players are ready to keep working hard to secure qualification to Euro 2016.

The Real Madrid winger scored the only goal of the game at the Cardiff City Stadium as Wales moved ahead of their opponents to the top of Group B with four games remaining.

Chris Coleman’s side are now five points clear of third place with the top two qualifying automatically but Bale insists the job is not done yet.

“We know what position we’re in but we’re going to enjoy this evening,” he said. “We know there is still a long way to go.

“For us, we can enjoy now but when the next camp comes around we’ll be straight back on the floor, working hard back on the training field and ready to do the business.”

It was a sell-out crowd in Cardiff and the fans made themselves heard throughout the match, roaring their side onto to victory against a Belgian side placed second in the FIFA world rankings.

“I can’t really put it into words. The crowd here – what can I say? I think we literally have the best fans in the world,” added Bale.

“We prepared well, we worked hard together and it showed out there. We played some good football, we were under the cosh at times but we battled in every area and I think we deserved the win in the end.

“After 65, 70 minutes I was gone! The gaffer said ‘put 100 per cent in, leave nothing out there’ and obviously the season is over now for everyone so we put it all out there on the field.”

Bale’s team-mate Aaron Ramsey was also thrilled with the result and said it was a reward for the work put in by the entire squad in the build up to the match.

“It was a great effort from the lads, everybody worked their socks off and there were a few players struggling with cramp at the end but that just shows the amount of effort we put in,” said the Arsenal midfielder.

“We prepared amazing all week, everybody – even the players who weren’t involved tonight, who didn’t have the chance to get on, they’ve been superb as well. Full credit, the fans came in their numbers and we put on a bit of a show for them tonight.

“It was probably one of the best atmospheres I’ve played in in a Welsh jersey so thank you very much to everybody who came tonight and I hope we did you proud.”
