Scotland assistant coach Mark McGhee has confirmed he knows who will captain Scotland against Croatia on Friday.
The squad is devoid of obvious choices for the role due to fitness problems for Scott Brown and Gary Caldwell, while Darren Fletcher and Kenny Miller have not been selected.
That means a new man is ready to take the role for the World Cup qualifier against the Group A high-flyers in Zagreb.
McGhee refused to reveal Gordon Strachan's choice though, expected to be James Morrison, insisting the manager should announce the decision.
"Gordon knows who is going to captain the team and he actually invited me this morning to tell you that," McGhee said.
"But I felt very strongly that that's something that should be reserved for the manager. It's such an important thing.
"There are moments in any manager's reign that are significant and naming the captain is one of them.
"So I declined that opportunity and told him he's got to do it himself."
