Francesco Totti will miss this month´s Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland in Bari.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed that the inspirational Roma captain will not be considered for selection for the national team until September.

The FIGC insist the 30-year-old will only return to Roberto Donadoni's squad when he has fully recovered from a long-term foot injury.

Despite the injury, Totti has been in sparkling form for the Giallorossi this season and is currently top scorer in Serie A with 18 goals.

He has missed just one league game this season and has helped his side secure a place in the last eight of the Champions League.

"Francesco Totti will return to the national team from September," read a statement from the FIGC.

"That is when the player will have completed his recovery programme that he has undergone since the serious injury sustained before the World Cup."

The Roma forward took a break from playing for Italy after their triumphant World Cup campaign and insisted he would only return to the national team when he was fully fit.

He will miss the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Scotland on 28th March and Lithuania on 6th June, but is expected to be available for the home clash against France on 8th September.

The Azzurri are third in Group B, two points behind group leaders France and Scotland.

Donadoni is set to announce the squad for the clash against Scotland on Sunday.
