Roy Hodgson has scrapped plans to meet with his England players later this month.

The England manager hoped to have dinner with his squad at the end of January to bridge a four-month gap between November's friendly in Scotland and a European Qualifier against Lithuania on March 27.

But players' club commitments mean he has been unable to agree a suitable date, and the get-together will not now happen.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham, all of whom contributed players to Hodgson's last squad, play two-legged Capital One Cup semi-finals in January on top of FA Cup and Premier League games.

More from European Qualifiers

Speaking earlier this month, Hodgson said: "I enjoy working with the team enormously and therefore when my time with them comes to an end I always miss the players, the training, the work on the field."
