Old rivals to meet at Wembley as part of FA's 150th anniversary

England will face Scotland at Wembley in August 2013 as part of the Football Association's 150th anniversary celebrations. The match will revive the oldest fixture on the international calendar, first played in 1872, which has not taken place since November 1999 when the Scots won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Don Hutchison. The game, which has been scheduled for Wednesday 14th August 2013, looks certain to be a sell-out and is the first scheduled match in what the FA hopes will be a series of high-profile fixtures to mark their anniversary. "It will be a huge honour to lead our nation out against our oldest rivals," said England manager Roy Hodgson. "For us, England versus Scotland is one of the finest fixtures in international football and I know what this game means to both sets of supporters." Scotland boss Craig Levein was equally enthused by the chance to go up against the Auld Enemy once again.

Thrilled

"For any Scotland supporter, player or coach, Scotland versus England is the ultimate contest: it really is as good as it gets," he said. "I am thrilled that we have reached agreement with The FA to play at Wembley as part of their 150th Anniversary celebrations and I am sure the supporters will be there in their tens of thousands." Meanwhile, England will play a high-profile friendly against Italy in Berne, Switzerland, on Wednesday 15th August 2012. The game will be England's first after Euro 2012 and will serve as a warm-up ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in September against Moldova and Ukraine.
