Paul Robinson will use the friendly with Argentina to prove he is England's first choice.
England goalkeeper Paul Robinson hopes to use Saturday's friendly with Argentina as further proof that he is the man to keep goal at next summer's World Cup.
Robinson highlighted the intense competition for places that exists in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad and believes it is that competition that continues to drive the players with World Cup qualification already achieved.
"It's a different pressure now, obviously we're at the World Cup but there's immense pressure to keep your place in the team and get to the World Cup and achieve something," Robinson told Sky Sports News.
"There's great quality throughout the squad, there's competition for places which is healthy and good for the team.
"At the moment I'm in the position where everyone wants to do what I'm doing. I'm in a very fortunate position but it's up to me to stay there."
The Tottenham custodian, who has exhibited fine form for club and country this season, is relishing another test against high-calibre opponents.
England face former foes Argentina at Stade de Geneve and Robinson expects the match to provide crucial preparation for next summer's World Cup.
"It's a very tough game. It's beneficial for us and more like a World Cup game as it's at a neutral ground," added Robinson.
"We have to travel before the game and neither team is at home, in that respect it's a good friendly because it's more preparation for the World Cup."
Fifa are set to confirm the latest world rankings and Robinson knows a victory on Saturday would be a huge boost to their chances of regaining a foothold in the international top 10.
"It's very important for us to get a result with the Fifa rankings coming up," continued Robinson.
"They're second [in Fifa's rankings] at the moment with some excellent players and it's going to be a very big test for us.
"There's a lot of history between the two teams and I'm sure Saturday's game will be no different, I just hope we get a positive result."
