Duo doubtful for England

Sol Campbell and Kieran Richardson are doubtful for the Colombia game.

Sol Campbell and Kieran Richardson are major doubts for England's friendly with Colombia next week.

Stand-in England skipper Campbell and two-goal hero Richardson picked up knocks during Saturday's 2-1 win over USA.

Campbell turned his ankle and was forced off at half time, while Richardson sustained a hamstring strain and both players are battling against time to be fit to face Colombia in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Arsenal defender Campbell is set to undergo a scan on his injury and he is hopeful the problem is not too serious.

"I twisted my ankle. I'll have an MRI scan and take it from there," said Campbell.

"Hopefully it's not ligament damage but we'll have to wait and see.

"It's the left ankle. I did it in the first two minutes and played on. I wanted to play on.

"Of course, it affected my performance because I couldn't really do what I wanted to do. I played through it but it became too sore for me to carry on in the second half."

Peter Crouch is hoping to be fit for the Colombia tie after missing out on his debut against USA with an ankle problem

"It is not as serious as I first thought," said Crouch. "I've got a couple of days to recover and it's going to be touch and go but I'm hopeful.

"Every half an hour I've been icing it so hopefully I'll be okay. There is training on Monday so hopefully I will be fine for that and I'll know more then.

"Sven has not said anything about the game on Tuesday but he has told me to try to get right for the game so I'm sure I'll play some part. To be named in the team and to miss out was gutting.

"I've not been injured too often so I'm really frustrated to be injured now of all times because there were a couple of games here to really impress and I was desperate to do that. But hopefully I can get myself right for Tuesday and show what I can do."

The squad is boosted by the return of Michael Owen and David Beckham who have flown out to America after Real Madrid ended their La Liga season on Saturday night.
