Germany defender sets sights on glory

Christoph Metzelder believes Germany have no-one to fear at Euro 2008 after their quarter-final victory over Portugal. Joachim Low's side produced an outstanding display as they booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-2 victory over Luiz Felipe Scolari's side. Real Madrid defender Metzelder now believes that the Euro 96 champions can repeat their success of 12 years ago. "Having knocked out Portugal, anything is possible," he said. "It's a pity that a team as strong as Portugal has to go home but we did a great job against them. "We are a strong team mentally and physically and now we have made it to the semi-finals and we will see what happens."

Ronaldo

The former Borussia Dortmund man praised Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who could join Metzelder at the Bernabeu in the coming season. "Ronaldo is a very good player," said Metzelder. "He is very fast and we knew what we were up against. "In the last 10 minutes of the first half, he made life difficult for us but we defended well. "We know he can be lethal when given room to manoeuvre but we did a great job in managing to limit his chances."
