Two-goal hero reflects on unlikely win over Czechs

Turkey hero Nihat Kahveci admits it was an 'incredible feeling' to come back and stun Czech Republic. The Czechs appeared to be heading through to the knockout stages of Euro 2008 after taking a 2-0 lead against Turkey on Sunday. However, Arda Turan pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go and stand-in captain Nihat then scored twice to set up a quarter-final with Croatia. Nihat pounced on a rare error from Czech keeper Petr Cech to equalise before completing the turnaround with a stunning winner. The Villarreal forward admits the Turkish players never doubted their ability to secure an unlikely win.

Didn't give up

"In these kind of matches you don't get the benefit of such errors very often," said Nihat in reference to Cech's mistake. "We weren't really performing well in the first half, but we didn't give up. "It was an incredible feeling, but we all believed in the win." Turkey coach Fatih Terim praised the contribution of Nihat, who had been named captain in the absence of Emre Belozoglu. Terim said: "Before the match I went to Nihat and told him I had faith in him. You saw the result."
