Defender wants to help Croatia finish top

Vedran Corluka is confident Croatia will wreck England's qualification dream at Wembley on Wednesday. Croatia have already booked their place in Euro 2008 and England need just a point to join them in Austria and Switzerland. But Manchester City right-back Corluka has warned England not to expect an easy night. He told Sky Sports News: "We will prove to everyone that we are the best team in this group and I think England must work if they want to take a point."

Foreign players

Corluka believes England will continue to struggle on the international stage in the coming years unless the Football Association clamps down on the number of foreigners playing in the Premier League. There have been calls in recent weeks for the introduction of a quota system to make sure that every top-flight team in England has a set amount of homegrown players. And Corluka feels it is impossible for England to have both a successful national team and a thriving Premier League. "It's hard for England because lots of foreign players come to the Premier League," he added in The Sun. "There are clubs where no one in the team is English. "It's hard as you don't have more young players like Micah Richards or Michael Johnson, my City team-mates. "You must raise young players it may mean people like me cannot play in the Premier League, but England have to make that decision. "The Premier League must decide what they want - a great league or a successful national team?"
