Arsene Wenger believes England must go for experience in Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.

Arsenal boss expects tactical change

Arsene Wenger believes England manager Steve McClaren must go for experience in Wednesday's crunch Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia. England need a point from the Wembley clash to book themselves a place at next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland. And ahead of the fixture McClaren must decided whether to select Gareth Barry or Frank Lampard in central midfield, while David Beckham is contesting with Shaun Wright-Phillips for a place on the right hand side. Arsenal boss Wenger, though, insists England will succeed if McClaren changes his tactics and opts for a five-man midfield including Lampard, Barry, Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole - while he feels Beckham's 98 caps should guarantee him a starting berth.

Security

"In these kind of games, a manager is tempted to play with a little bit of security and take players who know what it means not to make a mistake," said Wenger. "Therefore experience has an advantage. I feel he will go with Lampard, Barry and Beckham. He will change formation, for sure. "It's an important decision because I believe it's the best way to be tight defensively without losing too much potential to go forward. "Gerrard and Lampard give hope of goals from midfield. I believe it will be 2-0 to England.
Threat
"They will top the group and then you can't say they have under-achieved." However, Wenger has warned of the threat posed by Croatia, who are already assured of a place in the Euro 2008 finals. "Croatia have qualified." Wenger added. "There is no pressure and Wembley has a special aura for visiting teams. They will be dangerous opponents."
