Former Russia international Alexei Smertin has stated he would have loved to have played against England.
The 32-year-old midfielder, who plays for Premier League outfit Fulham, called time on his international career last year after reaching an agreement with head coach Guus Hiddink.
The former Charlton, Chelsea and Portsmouth man has never played against England, but has been dreaming of what might have been, had he been selected for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifier in Moscow.
"It's a shame, I would love to play in a big game like this - I have never played against England," he told the Daily Mail.
"It was my decision. There is no jealousy."
