Looking away from Manchester City and Chelsea’s final Champions League group fixtures, we examine the talking points from the six other clashes on Wednesday night.

Can CSKA Moscow scupper City’s chances at Bayern Munich?

If Manchester City draw in Rome and CSKA get three points against the German champions, the Russians will jump from fourth to second and qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Can it be done? Bayern have already qualified with ease, but were beaten last time out in Manchester and may take it easy at the Allianz Arena.

The form of Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia, the architect of Manchester City’s struggles in this group, will be telling in Germany.

His three goals so far in the competition all came against City, and another strike 600 miles north of Rome on Wednesday night could spell the end for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Who will win the Group F clash of the titans and finish top?

Barcelona and PSG have already qualified with ease, but the all-important top spot is up for grabs in Spain on Wednesday night.

PSG are currently top by a point after beating Luis Enrique’s side in a 3-2 classic in September, meaning a draw will give them the so-called ‘easier’ tie in the second round.

A win for Barca would mean they have topped their Champions League group for an eighth consecutive season, but they have never beaten PSG in Europe’s premier competition.

And, as if you weren’t already, look out for Lionel Messi, who will be looking to add to his record of 74 Champions League goals with Cristiano Ronaldo hot on his tail.

And which of the whipping boys will get a second chance in the Europa League?

If Barca v PSG is the clash of the Group F titans, Ajax v APOEL represents the one and only shot at salvaging some pride from a campaign that has seen no wins for either side.

The winner is guaranteed Europa League football next season, and with Ajax a point ahead of their Cypriot opponents, the ball is in their court.

It’s familiar ground for the Dutch side, who have finished third in each of their last four campaigns.

Can Roberto Di Matteo perform more Champions League miracles?

Schalke have seen an upturn in form since Roberto Di Matteo joined the club in October, and they can qualify for the knockout stages if they win at Maribor and Chelsea defeat Sporting Lisbon.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been in typically clinical form in Europe this season with three goals in five games for Schalke, but Slovenian champions Maribor are no pushovers.

They can qualify for the Europa League with a win, and have taken a point off all three of their group opponents this campaign.

The only matchday six game with nothing at stake… but who should the English clubs want to avoid?

Champions League Goals

Porto v Shakhtar is the ultimate dead rubber. Both sides have qualified and the hosts are guaranteed top spot, but if you’re looking at who to avoid in the next round, it’s the Portuguese giants.

They have scored 15 goals, more than any other side after matchday five, and have conceded just three goals in their European campaign, including the play-off stage.

Shakhtar have conceded the same amount and scored just one less. A 0-0 draw then, surely.

Look out for the man forever linked with a Premier League move - Jackson Martinez - and newly-crowned African Player of the Year Yacine Brahimi for Porto.

Will it be a Europa League consolation for Athletic Bilbao or BATE?

Firmly out of contention for a knockout place, BATE need a win to finish third and qualify for the Europa League.

The 22 goals the Belarusian side have conceded so far will give hope to Bilbao, who just need to avoid defeat for that third place.

All 30 Bilbao goals in the competition have been scored by Spaniards - not a surprise as they only recruit players from the Basque Country - but interestingly all 16 BATE goals have been scored by Belarusians.
