Champions League: Nasser Al Khelaifi wants PSG to beat Barcelona to top spot

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi wants Laurent Blanc's team to make a positive statement by denying Barcelona top spot in their Champions League group.

A Nou Camp clash between the teams on December 10 will settle who finishes at the Group F summit.

The Parisians are the team in possession of first place, after gathering 13 points from their opening five games, and a draw or better would see them remain there. A 3-2 home win over Barcelona in September will give the French champions confidence to take to Spain.

A 3-1 win over Ajax on Tuesday was not thoroughly convincing, as even Blanc admitted the Dutch visitors to the Parc des Princes were the superior side until it came to the final third of the pitch.

But Al Khelaifi said: "After this win, we're now going to go to Barcelona to take three points. The objective is to finish first in the group."

Midfielder Blaise Matuidi added, on the Paris St Germain website: "We've earned the right to play a group final against Barcelona. It's important to finish first. We know that it will be difficult to push them around over there but we did it at home. Why not do it at their place?"
