Eredivisie round-up

Excelsior and Heracles Almelo moved into joint second in De Eredivisie.

Excelsior and Heracles Almelo moved into joint second in De Eredivisie, whilst NAC Breda also triumphed on Saturday evening.

Top-flight new-boys Excelsior continued their promising start to the new campaign by edging a five goal thriller with Willem II.

The home side raced into a three goal lead before half time, with Sebastiaan Steur (35, 38) and Andwele Slory (41) giving them an unassailable advantage in an action packed six minute spell.

However former Tottenham striker Mounir el Hamdaoui did make inroads into the lead with his goals after 45 and 83 setting up a grandstand finish.

Heracles also find themselves two points behind early pacesetters AZ Alkmaar and Ajax following a comprehensive 3-0 win over Utrecht.

Kwame Quansah struck on the five minute mark to get his side off to a flyer, and Ramos Everton's brace (26, 82) made sure of the points for the hosts.

In the day's other game, NAC beat Vitesse Arnhem courtesy of an injury time strike from supersub Mike Zonneveld.
