FC Groningen moved into fourth place courtesy of a 2-0 win over Heerenveen.
Heerenveen could themselves have climbed the table, but instead Groningen moved up four places and above the Frisians who now sit in seventh.
Groningen took the lead after 24 minutes when former Manchester United star Erik Nevland (pictured) fired home.
The points were secured just before the hour mark when Danny Buijs added a second.
