The 20-year-old suffered a blow to his upper leg during training on Tuesday, and the problem does not appear to be clearing up as swiftly as the club had hoped.
Kalou has been in impressive form this season, scoring three goals in six appearances, and Feyenoord would be loathe to lose their tricky attacker.
Club doctor Van Linschoten confirmed that the player's situation would need constant monitoring ahead of Sunday's game, saying: "We'll watch it day by day."
Fears of Kalou's potential absence were increased when the Ivorian failed to show at all for training on Thursday.
