Babos to fight for place

Gabor Babos has vowed to win back his place in the Feyenoord goal.

Gabor Babos has vowed to win back his place in the Feyenoord goal.

The keeper has been taken out of the firing line by Ruud Gullit, with the Kuip chief saying the Hungarian was in need of a rest.

Babos says it is the first time in his Eredivisie career that he has been left out while healthy and admits it is a frustrating situation, but claims he will work hard to win his place back.

"Gullit said that I should have a rest for a few matches," Babos told Nemzeti Sport. "I have accepted the decision but it's a bit strange for me to be on the bench while I am healthy.

"It has never happened to me in the four-and-a-half years I have been in Holland.

"I hope that it is just a short break and I will get back into the team as soon as possible.

"I will be working hard in the following days and weeks to reach this goal."

Patrick Lodewijks (pictured) took over in goal for Sunday's trip to Heerenveen and Babos believes the defence was to blame for them surrendering a two-goal lead in the 2-2 draw.

"At 2-0, I was sure we would win," he added. "But we conceded two unlucky goals.

"The match was a good example for the fact that we don't have problems with the goalkeepers. It was our defence that was not that good."
