PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen has been ruled out of all footballing action for the next six months with a hamstring injury.
The 26-year-old tore his hamstring during training with the Sweden national team on Wednesday ahead of their World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Friday.
PSV's medical staff has now revealed that Toivonen will under an operation to recover from his damage and will spend the subsequent six months recuperating.
"For optimal recovery of this injury, surgery is required in the short term," reads a statement on PSV's official website.
"It is expected that a rehabilitation period of around half a year will be necessary."
