Defender hopes to pen five-year deal at Valencia in the summer

Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel says he has agreed terms on a summer move to Valencia and is hopeful of penning a five-year deal. The 23-year-old full-back has caught the eye of the Spanish club with a string of impressive displays for Ajax this season. The reigning Eredivisie champions have already turned down one offer from the Spanish side and the two clubs remain locked in talks but Van der Wiel has agreed personal terms and expects a deal to be reached. "The clubs are still negotiating, but I expect them to reach an agreement," Van der Wiel told Eredivisie Live. "I have already spoken with Valencia and have agreed terms. If everything goes according to plan, I will sign a five-year deal."

Contract

Van der Wiel, who is contracted in Amsterdam until 2013, is thought to be valued at around €10million (£8.4m) by Ajax. Technical director Danny Blind reiterated at the weekend that the defener will not depart the Eredivisie club in next month's transfer window. "Ajax has business as well as sporting considerations to take into account, but in the case of Gregory it is clear that in the winter he is not likely to go," Blind told Ajax's official website. "Coach Frank de Boer and his staff will discuss this matter. We will talk to the player himself, or his agent, to find out what he wants. "Gregory is important to this team. If Valencia or any other club want to sign him in the summer then, of course, if the price is right then it will be considered."
