Training boost for Maxwell

Brazilian star Maxwell has returned to training at Ajax.

Brazilian star Maxwell has returned to training at Ajax.

The wing back suffered cruciate knee ligament damage during Ajax's Amstel Cup defeat to Willem II in April, an injury which was expected to rule him out until well into the New Year.

However, he has made good progress and has been handed a tailored training programme in a bid to aid his recovery.

Part of Maxwell's training programme sees him having to run with a parachute in order to increase the level of resistance and he is hopeful of making a return to action before Christmas.

"It really feels like coming home," he told the club's website after returning to training.

Spanish defender Juanfran has been hit with a heavy fine following his dismissal against Heerenveen's second string.

The full back saw red for aiming an elbow in the direction of Sebistiaan Steur and Ajax will not tolerate such actions.

"We can understand many things, but won't accept everything," Ajax director Martin van Geel told De Telegraaf.
