Lobont laid low

Ajax keeper Bogdan Lobont is likely to be out for six weeks with a broken finger.

Ajax have been dealt a blow with the news that keeper Bogdan Lobont is likely to be out for six weeks with a broken finger.

The Romanian has fought off the challenge of Maarten Stekelenburg to reclaim the number one jersey and was hoping for an extended run in the team in the second half of the season.

However, the 26-year-old damaged a finger in training this week and X-rays have revealed a break which is likely to take six weeks to heal.

The Dutch season is not due to restart until the weekend of the 23rd of January, when Ajax will face Utrecht, but Lobont will not be fit and the news heaps more misery on a player who had only recently returned from a knee injury picked up in October.

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman may be able to offset the loss of Lobont, as he has Stekelenburg and Hans Vonk waiting in the wings.
