Young stopper to leave first club for Kerkrade in summer
Defender Leon Broekhof has turned down a new deal at De Graafschap in favour of a free transfer to Roda JC.
The 22-year-old, who began his career at De Vijverberg stadium, will move to Kerkrade in the summer on a two-year deal.
Broekhof admits the opportunity to join Roda, currently seventh in the Eredivisie table, was too good to pass up.
"I regret that I have to leave, but this is an opportunity I could not turn down," he told
Voetbal Primeur.
"I was in negotiations with De Graafschap (over an extension), and the club had given me a good offer. But then suddenly Roda finalised the deal.
"I've talked to my family, girlfriend and agent, and put everything together. And the conclusion was this - you might only get this chance once.
"The money is a step higher for me and Roda is a stable club. Last year they finished ninth and now they're seventh."
Roda technical director Martin van Geel added on
Voetbal International: "Leon fits the profile of the club.
"He's a boy with plenty of potential, who can develop well at Roda."
